There are only 107 rooms, ensuring you will find that special place to unwind and enjoy this beautiful island. Unlike many of the islands off the tropical Queensland Coast, Brampton has its own coral reef just off the main beach. Brampton Island is one of the very few Whitsunday islands that does not allow day trippers to interrupt the peace and solitude. Brampton Island Resort is a tropical paradise and is all about fun, adventure and pure escapism on the Great Barrier Reef.

Daydream Island Mar 17

From personal experience I can highly recommend Daydream Island.  It is such a cute, lovely resort located in the beautiful Whitsundays.  It is also very easy to get to.  There are two airports you can fly into, the Great Barrier Reef airport on Hamilton Island or the Whitsunday Coast airport on the mainland at Proserpine.  Flying into Hamilton Island is more convenient as you can then get a boat transfer to Daydream Island which takes approximately 30 minutes.  If you fly into Proserpine, you have to get a coach connection from the airport to Abel Point Marina at Airlie Beach which takes 30 minutes, then connect with a ferry transfer to Daydream Island, allowing another 30 minutes.

I think it is perfect for families!  Kids absolutely love all the activiites and they never get bored.  There is a daily activities program and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday they feature the latest released movies in a unique open air cinema.  For good value food and a great atmosphere I would suggest the Fish Bowl Tavern.  Serves food such as steak sandwiches, burgers and chips and nachos.  A day trip to the Outer Barrier Reef is also something you should budget for.  You will be amazed by its beauty!

Most of the island is designated as a National Park and the dense rainforest is home to a huge variety of native flora and fauna, including 150 species of birds, and the beautiful electric blue Ulysses butterfly (the island’s famous symbol). With a wingspan of up to 10 centimetres, the Ulysses butterfly is one of the largest butterflies in Australia, and definitely the most beautiful.

Reef View Hotel Hamilton Island Dec 19

I stayed at the Reef View Hotel Hamilton Island on my honeymoon and I cannot recommend it highly enough.  We chose a Coral Sea View room and were not disappointed as the views were spectacular.  It was lovely watching the sunset every evening from our spacious balcony.

The rooms were very spacious with all the facilities needed to ensure our stay was comfortable.  Even though we stayed there for our honeymoon I would definitely recommend this hotel for families also because of the space.  It is also perfectly positioned close to the main pools and restaurants.  We hired a buggy one day to explore the island, however most days we just walked everywhere we needed to go.  Our favourite place to spend the afternoons was at the Yacht Club Tavern. It is a nice casual atmosphere and the food and drinks are reasonably priced.  The Mantra Ray Café also does fantastic pizzas.  Both the Yacht Club Tavern and The Mantra Ray Café are located on the Marina side of the island.

During your stay on Hamilton Island I would recommend doing a Great Barrier Reef day trip including a visit to Whitehaven Beach.  Whitehaven Beach is spectacular and cannot be missed.  There are tour desks on Hamilton Island that can help you book any day tours and activities you would like to try.  If you are looking for good value and comfortable Hamilton Island accommodation then you will enjoy The Reef View Hotel.
